Browser-based Games

Browser-Games

Browser-based games only require Internet access and a web browser. Advantage: Games can be accessed from almost anywhere. There is absolutely no need to install software on a specific computer. There are no license or copyright terms that might be infringed. Updates, patches, extensions, new versions are directly installed on the Gameforge central server cluster. No maintenance effort for the player. Players always profit from the latest version of the game. The player's browser starts a simple http request initiating a session on the game server. By using a PHP interface, the game content will be individually displayed on the screen. That’s all. Simple, isn’t it?

Client-based Games

Client-based games

This type of games is a bit more similar to traditional games. They include a software client which is to be found on the game’s website. Download it for free, install it on your desktop (mostly on Windows computers), start the software client and start playing. If you want to play the game on a different computer, you have to repeat the installation. Client-based games AT PRESENT still offer a better graphical game experience in comparison to purely browser-based games. Gameforge is convinced that it is only a matter of a few years until browser-based games will have reached a graphical quality that makes software clients obsolete – forever.

Fun-Level-Agreement

Both Gameforge game varieties are free of charge and do not require expensive hardware. Even the purchase of software is negligible. Gameforge provides software for client-based games which is free-to-download. The Gameforge Fun-Level-Agreement even renders the age-old problem of software piracy, confusing license agreements and outdated game versions obsolete. The only things you will have to spend anything for are individual add-ons and virtual items or the odd premium account.

Community Communication

Gameforge games captivate players by involving them deeply into a community of peers. You play with or against like-minded people of the same breed. MMOGs typically have different means of communication. Personal news, forum discussion threads, in-game chat systems, instant messaging, IRC or even e-mail – communication is essential when playing "massively multiplayer". Voice-over-IP communication of the Skype-like type should not be discounted. To what effect? It’s simple. Build guilds or ensign with clans and you will be part of an alliance that, if unified, can strike even harder. But you need co-ordination and therefore communication. Anyway, each action of a player influences instantaneously events in the virtual world of the game.
